Director of Analytics at Blue State Digital (New York, New York)

The Blue State Digital Strategy Team is dedicated to identifying and implementing the most effective ways to fulfill our clients' changing digital advocacy needs. Analytics is the backbone of our multi-faceted strategy department, and works to support delivery teams that span web design, email, content, social media, and advertising. We use data to track our clients' performance to goals, and to optimize our strategies based on the demonstrated behavior of our clients constituents and visitors. We are passionate about finding innovative solutions to our clients everyday problems, and using data to support our tactical recommendations.

The Analytics Team develops and delivers performance-enhancing recommendations to clients and internal teams using data collected from various sources. We identify solutions to complex problems and questions, and make recommendations based on ongoing data analysis and knowledge of industry standards.

As Director of Analytics, you will be responsible for providing thought leadership and guidance to a team of Web Analysts and Web Architects, as well as to our client portfolio and internal teams. You will help curate and shepherd our point of view on the smart use of data for digital strategy development, and will chart the course of the Analytics Teams development. You will manage a team of individuals, your own book of business, and internal/external projects.
Job Requirements

* Manage and mentor a team of Web Analysts and Web Architects (located in NYC and DC). Conduct regular 1:1 meetings to review individual and account performance, work with individuals to craft goals and professional development plans, provide regular feedback and guidance as issues arise, address training and onboarding needs, and conduct annual performance reviews.
* Set a vision for the team within the company and develop a path for growth, including but not limited to: managing capacity issues, staffing and hiring, cross-team integration, establishing team goals, and identifying product and project opportunities.
* Support the skill and career growth of members of the team, including delegating responsibilities as appropriate and focusing on skills development.
* Provide strategic leadership on all analytics projects, act as the senior expert on analytics issues, support relationship management needs on key clients.
* Manage a client portfolio through proactive analysis and recommendations. Exhibit a high level of expertise in driving data strategy across multiple touch points.
* Develop scalable industry best practices, and drive core insights from data to suggest, create, and execute multivariate or A/B tests that drive fundamental improvements.
* Pursue new business for the Analytics Team and support agency business development activities. Have an active role in maintaining the health and growth of existing accounts.
* Develop product offerings for the Analytics Team and across departments. Assist with regular development and review of Business Development proposals. Participate in potential client calls and meetings as needed.
* Drive understanding of how analytics programs fit into broader digital programs, and pursue a commitment to improving ROI for our clients by working closely with other BSD teams to ensure that all pieces are moving together to accomplish client goals.
* Develop and deliver effective and persuasive presentations demonstrating the value of our work for client teams, business development, and partners.
* Help drive and champion cross?client and companywide innovation as well as strategic, programmatic, and procedural improvements.
* Develop materials and speak publicly on behalf of the company on webinars, at industry conferences, and at BSD hosted events.


* You have a BA/BS with a strong academic record.
* You have worked on this type of team before: you have at least four years of experience with standard web analytics tools (expertise in Google Analytics and Omniture preferred), at least two years of experience in advanced web analytics methodologies, such as experimentation and testing, competitive analysis, surveys, and market research (expertise with Optimizely preferred), and three to five years of experience using the Microsoft Office suite or the Apple iLife suite with strong Excel skills.
* You have excellent communication skills and are ability to interact with all levels of end users, technical resources, and colleagues. You have strong project management skills.
* You have experience managing others. You are able to identify issues and escalate when appropriate. Resolves conflicts constructively. You apply learnings from mistakes and provide peer and team-wide feedback for those in immediate area of focus.
* You are able to identify key needs or gaps and provide leadership to address those gaps.
* You proactively identify and communicate growth goals for yourself and others.
* You are passionate about the digital space and the opportunities present for digital growth and development.
* Extra Credit: You dabble in programming, with experience in Javascript, JQuery, SQL, or HTML. You have experience in data science and/or data visualization. You have work or academic experience in one of the fields our clients belong to.
